Ben and Kirsten did NOT want white subway tile.

It’s not that there is anything wrong with subway tile. I like subway tile. Many of my clients do. It’s a great price point, simple, on trend, and works into many different style of homes. But it is not for everybody and it didn’t take us long to realize that subway tile wasn’t the right choice for Ben and Kirsten.

While not flashy people, they wanted something that made a statement. It needed to be unique without being trendy. It needed to have an interesting shape, but couldn’t be modern as that wouldn’t fit their updated traditional aesthetic. Color was also important, but without being too busy. It couldn’t be sparkly but it needed to have some shine. And just when you think this order couldn’t be taller, it needed to have some texture without being hard to wipe down.

(Drumroll….) Enter beautiful 3-D juniper green ceramic back splash.

It was love at first sight. When Ben and Kirsten approved this tile for their back splash, I heard my inner voice do a little “yes!!!!”. I knew instantly that I would photograph this project and I waited patiently for many long months to see this beauty go up and boy was it worth the wait!! It’s a stunner. In all it’s glory, it is the element that makes this kitchen sing.

Kitchen range in peninsula

Kitchen remodeling in Fort Collins, particularly in Old Town can pose a challenge due to smaller spaces of the older homes. Even with blowing out a nonstructural wall, we were still left with a tight narrow space. To create a grand feeling in the small space, I used thicker counter tops and tall crown molding reaching all the way to the ceiling, utilizing every available inch of height.
